One Room Challenge || Week Three - walk-in closet
Lilac it is my friends!! And boy am I loving it! If you are new and don't know what the One Room Challenge is it was started by Linda from Calling it Home some years ago. In this challenge she lines up twenty talented interior designers and professional
bloggers to redo a room in their home in just six weeks- we update you once a week on
Wednesdays. And today is Wednesday! (in case you missed them here are this round's previous posts- one and two).
To refresh your memory I am doing my walk-in closet. At first, my plan included pink walls, then I wanted gray and finally decided on lilac. LOVE, LOVE, ADORE....But it was hard to chose the perfect lilac...
Uhm....I was confused to put it mildly. This is an example of how samples can get expensive, but at the same time, I saved my sanity in the long run. Chosing the wrong purple would have been a nightmare to live with. I wasn't sure i wanted to give up on the pink walls just yet, so I put a couple of Farrow and Ball swatches up with the lilacs. I was picking colors with too much blue without realizing it until I saw them on the wall. I polled you guys through Instagram (thank you! so helpful!) and my real life friends here. The color I ended up chosing (bottom right) I got from Jenny Komenda's purple vanity inlay project here. The color's name is Rhapsody in Lilac by Sherwin Williams. The name says it all. it is PERFECT. I chose a glossy finish to add more light to the space since it's windows are small and it is a bit dark. The reflective surfaces add a bit extra.
And here is the lilac wall with the leopard fabric.
This little space is finally coming together! Ooooh and I'm in love with the latest and final rug. This cute runner-
To be honest I had wanted to use this rug from the beginning but the fact that almost every blogger in the world has it made me keep it at a distance. But after my sheep rug fiasco from last week I decided to go for it. I know the rug is nothing novel but it makes me so happy. A lot more than I thought, actually! It is even better in person. This rug is like a cozy sweater you don't want to take off. I want to lay in it and make rug angels. Coincidentally, this is exactly the first thing my daughter did when she saw it.
And now, are you ready to hear about my secret weapon for the closet? It is the wainscoting I will add to the walls. The trim is just a 3/4 inch rounded molding. And guess what color I painted it?? Oh, yes I did! Gold my friends. You can find the molding at most any store like Lowe's or Home Depot. I primed it and then spray painted it gold.
This week was exciting as the project is nicely coming together. All the set backs from last week are long forgotten and progress is being made. I have to pick up the shades from the workroom this week and add the trim to the walls. Next week I will be talking about the art I have chosen, which I'm really excited about and can't wait to share with you.
And now let's see what my friends are up to today!! I can't wait to read all about their progress.
