ORC || Week 2- Daughter's Room
So happy it's Thursday again as I get to fill you in on the progress I have made in my daughter's room for the One Room Challenge Guest Participants. The One Room Challenge was started by Linda from Calling it Home some years ago where she lines up twenty very talented professional bloggers and designers to redo a room in just six weeks. They share their progress every Wednesday (see my past projects here and here). And the Guest Participants (anyone can join!) report their progress on Thursdays. If you are just tuning in for the first time you can see week 1. In this week 2 I have been hard at work! Let me show you!
I got the headboards for the twin beds. They are gloriously beautiful- pretty and elegant. Youthful for a young girl and serious enough that if this becomes a guest room later on they will work as well! I will show you a little corner but will tell you more about them later on. So as you can see I was trying to choose a green that was similar to the headboards and which, at the same time, contrasted nicely with the wall color because, guess what??! I'm adding trim! If you are a regular reader and know my past projects I know you are not surprised one bit. I was thinking I wanted green trim.
But the little lady that will inhabit this space had a different idea.....she wanted.....gold....(she is my daughter after all!gold is probably in our genes somewhere) and gold she is getting. I was happy she spoke out because I think gold will always look good (we have it in our master against dark brown walls and it looks sensational!).
I also ordered more of the Brunschwig and Fils Beaufort Taffeta fabric for the second twin bed and it arrived! Phew! I originally bought it 8 years ago and was scared it was discontinued or backordered....but they had plenty of it. Now I need to have the bed-skirt made.
Also, my parents gave Little Miss A, my daughter, an old wood cut print by Carol Summers for her bedroom. I love it and thought the yellow and greens would go beautifully in the room. I was relieved when Little Miss A approved it. But I knew she would, she loves getting special hand-me-downs like this. She realizes the sentimental value it has. Phew! We had to get it re-framed because the canvas below had some stains. I took it right away to my trusty framer Jon (if you live in Dallas he is your man! excellent prices and service!) because I know acrylic frames take a while and we are all in a time crunch here!
I'm exhausted and it's only week 2! I love this challenge because it makes you focus and just get it done, otherwise I could easily take 6 months! Crossing off now-
1 || Find material for the bed skirt and make the skirt.
2 || Add trim? and if so, what color should it be? GOLD!!! Painted.
3 || Find fabric for the night-table and make the skirt.
4 || Art? Little by little this is falling into place. One piece at framer's
5 || Desk?
6 || Lighting. I would love to have a chandelier in here.
7 || Curtains....we have blackout shades and HUGE windows. I don't think that is an expense I want to get into.
8 || Reading Chair
Now visit the other participants....should be fun to see what everyone is up to!
