Coffee Table Book || Sunnylands: America's Midcentury Masterpiece

If you love midcentury homes and furniture then you will really love this book, Sunylands: America's Midcentury Masterpiece by Janice Lyle.  This home is the pinnacle of midcentury style designed by A. Quincy Jones, one of California's most significant architects and decorated by William Haines.  It is maintained today as a museum open to the public.  Walter and Leonore Annenberg created this magnificent modernist home in the middle of their own gold course in the 1960s in the Palm Springs desert.  It soon became a retreat for Hollywood stars, politicians, and corporate leaders where they could socialize and relax in privacy.  The Reagans, as well as Richard Nixon used to frequent this home and Frank Sinatra even got married here!  This was the world Slim Aarons loved photographing.

This book showcases the careful restoration of historic rooms, dinner seating charts, details of Haines's iconic furniture, and photographs of its many famous visitors.  You will enjoy the midcentury design inspiration, the fabulous art collection, the fabric choices and more.  A few photos to wet your appetite-

There are some interesting color palettes in here that very much surprised me.  I was also inspired by the shape of many furniture pieces and even by its placement in the rooms.  I feel like this book was a great education on midcentury design for me.  Get it here.
